Possibilities

MuseumSys is an integrated computer system, which offers a wide range of information technology services. PavaSys is one specific implementation designed and developed for the Budapest Holocaust Memorial Center.

The system satisfies all needs connected to IT in the institute:
  - Every day office-type services for assisting local staff members
  - Operation-type services for managing and maintaining the exhibition

The integrated system has a lower specific cost and is more effective than the fusion of several different applications for providing the required services. If there is the possibility for a fresh start we advise using the most recent technology and considering the concept of a modular yet fully integrated system.

Daily routine of staff members

The staff member enters the institute through the security entrance system, which identifies the person and accesses the previously granted user rights.
The staff member sits down in front of the terminal and logs onto the system (access is only available to those who are physically in the building, thus there is no need for other means of identification or verification).
After logging in all required services are made available to the user - office applications, Internet access, communication facilities, etc.
At the end of the shift the staff member logs out of the system and leaves the institute, the system records and stores this information if necessary.

Daily operation of the exhibition

The exhibition startup and shutdown events are automatically engaged by the system, the staff members in charge of operations can be notified of these events (e.g.: by email).
After the exhibition is up and running the visitor entrance system is activated.
Upon arrival each visitor is uniquely identified and receives the exhibition escort device.
The escort device serves as a digital assistant, providing the user with information throughout the visit (e.g.: directions and navigation, multi-lingual narration, etc.)
The system gathers data on the visitors' activities (e.g.: which digital installations were accessed, which menu items were selected, which photographs were viewed, etc.) for future reference.

Interfaces and services

The exhibition utilizes touch screens for providing information. Text, documents, photographs, movie clips and audio tracks are all available via the ergonomic menu system.
In some cases alternative forms for presentation can be more adequate, like wall-sized video projections, multi-screen slide shows, dual-display interactive maps or even quiz like games.
The electronic database yields access the information in a structured form via terminals providing a similar experience to that of browsing the Internet. The database is managed through the administrative interface available to designated staff members.
Optionally the electronic database (or certain groups of information) can also be accessed via the museum's online website.
There is also the possibility of providing the visitors with an offline version of the information available at the exhibition in the form of multimedia CDs or DVDs.
